Vice President Election: NDA Candidate CP Radhakrishnan Files Nomination; PM Modi Proposes His Documents

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday propoed nomination of NDA's Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan as he files his nomination papers in Parliament. Several big leaders of NDA namely Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Anupriya Patel, Kiren Rijiju and others present during the nomination.

The nomination is also said to be ruling coalition's show of strength.

Radhakrishnan's candidature was cleared during the BJP parliamentary party meeting on August 17, chaired by PM Modi. Soon after, BJP president JP Nadda announced the decision, calling Radhakrishnan "a seasoned leader who has served the party with dedication for decades."

The Vice Presidential election will be held on September 9, with voting and counting scheduled the same day. Radhakrishnan will face opposition nominee Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, a retired Supreme Court judge, who will file his papers on August 21.

PM Modi is expected to play a central role in rallying NDA allies to secure a smooth victory for Radhakrishnan. With the NDA commanding the support of 422 MPs in the 782-member electoral college, the numbers are comfortably in their favour, well past the halfway mark of 391 votes.

The election was triggered after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21, cutting short his term by nearly three years.

If elected, Radhakrishnan - a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu known for his organizational skills and long association with the party - will step into the role with PM Modi's strong backing, further consolidating the NDA's hold over constitutional posts.
