Vice Admiral AN Pramod Says Indian Navy Was In Position To Attack Karachi
In response to the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 civilians, India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructures within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). This operation saw the Indian Army and Air Force executing precision strikes from both air and ground, effectively dismantling key terrorist facilities in the region. Vice Admiral AN Pramod highlighted the Indian Navy's readiness to engage in combat, emphasizing its capability to strike pivotal targets, including Karachi, at any chosen moment.
The Indian Navy played a critical role during Operation Sindoor, maintaining a forward deployment in the Arabian Sea. This posture ensured that Pakistan's naval forces were kept in a defensive position, largely confined to harbors or close to the coast. Vice Admiral AN Pramod, during a joint media briefing with all three military branches, shared insights into the Navy's operational readiness. He pointed out that the Navy was fully prepared and equipped to launch attacks against specific targets at sea and on land, demonstrating India's military prowess and strategic planning in countering threats.

Following the attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Navy engaged in rigorous live-firing drills, weapon launch tests, and operational combat exercises in the Arabian Sea. These activities were part of a broader strategy to refine tactics and verify the readiness of crew, armament, and equipment. The Navy's statement on X revealed that these drills aimed at ensuring precision in hitting selected targets, reaffirming the armed forces' commitment to delivering "unimaginable punishment" to the attackers as promised by the Indian government.
Vice Admiral AN Pramod reiterated the Indian military's stance on its response to Pakistani aggression as being measured, proportionate, non-escalatory, and responsible. This approach underscored India's commitment to maintaining a balanced and calculated response to provocations. The Navy's seamless maritime domain awareness enabled continuous monitoring of Pakistani naval units, ensuring strategic advantage and operational superiority for India.
The aftermath of the Pahalgam attack saw heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting India to take several retaliatory measures. These included suspending the Indus Water Treaty, downgrading diplomatic relations, revoking Pakistani nationals' visas, closing Indian airspace to Pakistani flights, halting bilateral trade, and financially and globally isolating Pakistan. These steps, combined with Operation Sindoor, showcased India's multifaceted approach to dealing with security threats and aggression from Pakistan.
