VBA Set to Announce Alliance Decision with Maha Vikas Aghadi

In a significant political development in Mumbai, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Prakash Ambedkar, is poised to announce its stance on a potential alliance with the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) this Wednesday. Siddharth Mokle, the chief spokesperson and state vice president of VBA, confirmed that the party's working committee is scheduled to convene on Tuesday night to deliberate on this matter. The decision, expected to be revealed by Ambedkar from his home district Akola, comes amid speculations and discussions on whether VBA will join forces with the MVA, an alliance comprising the Shiv Sena UBT, Congress, and NCP Sharadchandra Pawar.

VBAs Alliance Decision Imminent

The contemplation of this alliance underscores the VBA's efforts to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mokle addressed concerns regarding the delay in finalising a seat-sharing formula with MVA, attributing it to a "false picture" portrayed by some quarters. He clarified that VBA has been transparent with its supporters about the negotiations and stated that disputes among MVA constituents over 15 parliamentary constituencies have been a stumbling block. According to Mokle, while Congress and Shiv Sena UBT have conflicting interests in 10 seats, all three parties of the MVA have laid claims to the remaining five.

The potential impact of a VBA-MVA alliance cannot be understated, given the history of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections where VBA's presence reportedly affected the outcomes in several constituencies including Nanded, Solapur, Hatkanangale, Beed, Parbhani, and Sangli. These instances saw a division of votes which ultimately benefitted NDA candidates. The upcoming announcement by Prakash Ambedkar is keenly awaited as it could significantly alter the political landscape ahead of the Lok Sabha elections by either consolidating opposition forces against the NDA or maintaining the status quo.
