In a last-minute attempt to increase local candidate Ajay Rai's chances of winning, who is an MLA from Pindra assembly constituency, Rahul will hold a massive rally to reach out to the voters of Varanasi.
TV reports said that all permissions have been granted to Rahul to hold roadshow in Varanasi and he will reportedly cover six kilometres or more in minorities areas.
"History will be rewritten in Varanasi on May 12. It is fight between son of the soil and outsiders Modi and Arvind Kejriwal. People of Varanasi love me and I am confident of my success," Rai has claimed.
Interestingly, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was today denied permission to hold rallies in Varanasi, the party said, and sought removal of the city's poll official, alleging partiality.
The BJP alleged the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh had a hand in the decision to deny permission to Modi.
However, SP has said that they are not behind denial to Modi's rally in the temple town.
In a letter to the Election Commission, party leader Arun Jailtey said the poll official was verbally informed May 5 (Monday) about two rallies in Rohaniya and Beniyabagh. A formal application was sent May 6 (Tuesday).
The BJP earlier announced that the Gujarat chief minister would be spending May 8, 9 and 10 in Varanasi, the day campaigning ends.
Varanasi goes to polls on May 12, the last day of the nine-phased Lok Sabha elections.
