Varanasi Authorities Ban Sale Of Meat During Mahakumbh 2025

District Magistrate S Rajalingam has issued firm instructions to prepare Kashi for the Mahakumbh, starting January 13. He emphasised maintaining the city's sanctity by prohibiting open meat sales during the festival. The meeting with officials focused on ensuring readiness for the influx of pilgrims.

During the meeting, a deadline of December 31 was set for completing all necessary preparations. Departments were instructed to repair potholes, fix black spots, and complete white strip marking on roads. Directional signboards will be installed at key entry points like Mohansarai and the ring road to guide pilgrims effectively.

Infrastructure and Safety Measures

The electricity department received orders to replace worn-out wires and cover transformer poles with plastic. Electric poles obstructing roadways must be relocated immediately to ensure safety and ease of movement. These measures aim to create a secure environment for visitors.

Temporary bus stands are planned at Harhua, Jagatpur, and Lahartara to prevent traffic congestion. Continuous awareness campaigns will promote a plastic-free city. The food safety department is tasked with inspecting food quality at hotels, shops, and street carts to respect devotees' religious sentiments.

Coordination Among Departments

The meeting included the additional district magistrate city, deputy commissioner of police traffic, and representatives from public works and municipal corporations. Officials were reminded to adhere strictly to timelines for all preparations, ensuring smooth coordination among departments.

The DM's directives also highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness in Kashi during the Mahakumbh. Efforts are being made to ensure that pilgrims have a pleasant experience while visiting this sacred city.

As part of the preparations, renovation work is underway at Har-Ki-Pauri in Haridwar. This is part of broader efforts to enhance facilities for pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh festival.

The DM's comprehensive approach aims to address various aspects of city management ahead of this significant event. By focusing on infrastructure improvements and safety measures, authorities hope to provide a seamless experience for all visitors.
