Vande Bharat Express: Unveiling the Mystery Behind Its Color Schemes
The New Delhi Vande Bharat Express, recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sparked confusion due to conflicting color schemes. While the actual train is white and blue, brochures distributed by the Northern Railway depicted it in saffron and grey. This article explores the reasons behind this discrepancy and the future plans for the trains color scheme.
The newly launched Vande Bharat train, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, has sparked curiosity due to its color scheme. While the first Vande Bharat train sported a white and blue exterior, the brochures circulated by the Northern Railway (NR) a day prior showcased the train in saffron and grey. This change in color has raised questions and discussions.

Saffron-Grey: A Future Transformation
According to a senior NR official, the current white-blue Vande Bharat trains will eventually be transformed into saffron-grey. This decision aligns with the ongoing manufacturing process at coach factories. The official explained that keeping the future scenario in mind, they featured a saffron-grey colored Vande Bharat on their brochures.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
Beyond the color change, the Vande Bharat train boasts several passenger-friendly features. It offers on-board WiFi infotainment, a GPS-based passenger information system, plush interiors, and bio-vacuum toilets with touch-free conveniences. Additionally, the train is equipped with diffused LED lighting, charging points beneath every seat, individual touch-based reading lights, and concealed roller blinds.
Advanced Climate Control System
The Vande Bharat train incorporates an improved heat ventilation and air-conditioning system, complete with a UV lamp for germ-free air supply. The intelligent air-conditioning system automatically adjusts cooling based on climate conditions and passenger occupancy, ensuring a comfortable journey for all.
Train Schedule and Routes
The inaugural run of the Vande Bharat train from Varanasi to New Delhi commenced on Monday at approximately 2:45 pm. However, its scheduled operations will begin from 6 am on all days except Tuesdays. The train will arrive in New Delhi at 2:05 pm and depart for Varanasi at 3 pm, reaching its destination at 11:05 pm.
The existing Vande Bharat train between New Delhi and Varanasi operates six days a week, excluding Thursdays. It departs from Delhi at 6 am and reaches Varanasi at 2 pm. The return journey begins at 3 pm, arriving in Delhi at 11 pm.
Saffron-Grey: A Scientific Choice
The Railways introduced its first saffron-grey colored Vande Bharat train on September 24, running between Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. This decision sparked discussions about the political motivations behind the color choice. However, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified that the selection of colors was based on scientific considerations.
According to Vaishnaw, yellow and orange are the most visible colors to the human eye. He cited the example of Europe, where approximately 80% of trains are either orange or a combination of yellow and orange. While other bright colors like silver exist, yellow and orange are considered the most effective for human visibility.
Vaishnaw emphasized that there is no political agenda behind the color choice and that it is purely a scientific decision.
The Vande Bharat train, with its enhanced features and color transformation, represents a significant step forward in India's railway infrastructure. As the nation embraces these advancements, the focus remains on providing passengers with a safe, comfortable, and efficient travel experience.
