Significance of Vaikuntha Ekadashi

Vaikunta Ekadashi

Vaikunta Ekadashi is also known as Mukkoti Ekadashi. On this auspicious day, it is believed that the Vaikunta Dwaram (gate to Lord Vishnu's divine abode) opens for devotees. Observing a fast on this day is said to bestow salvation and a place in Vaikuntha (heaven).

This festival holds special importance in temples like:

  • Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Tirupati
  • Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam

In Kerala, it is referred to as Swarga Vathil Ekadashi in the Malayalam calendar.

When Is Vaikunta Ekadashi in 2025?

In 2025, Vaikunta Ekadashi will be observed on Friday, January 10.

Fasting Guidelines

  • The fast begins on Ekadashi and concludes with Parana the next morning, after sunrise and within Dwadashi Tithi.
  • Breaking the fast during Hari Vasara (the first quarter of Dwadashi) should be avoided.
  • Preferable times for Parana are Pratahkal (early morning) over Madhyahna (midday).

Special Observances

  • When Ekadashi is observed on consecutive days, Smarthas (householders) fast on the first day, while the second day is observed by ascetics and those seeking Moksha.
  • Devotees seeking deep devotion to Lord Vishnu may fast on both days.

Key Timings:

Parana Time (breaking the fast):
January 11, 2025: 7:15 AM to 8:21 AM
Dwadashi End Moment:
8:21 AM on January 11

Note: Parana should be done after sunrise on Dwadashi but before the tithi ends. Avoid breaking the fast during Hari Vasara (the first quarter of Dwadashi).

Vaikunta Ekadashi is a day of devotion, fasting, and seeking Lord Vishnu's blessings for a prosperous spiritual journey.
