Rescue Efforts Underway

Taking cognizance of the situation, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the flash flood caused by cloud burst.

The Uttarakhand government has initiated a rescue operation involving the Indian Army, police, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Teams have been dispatched to Bhatwari to assist those affected by the rising water levels in the Khir Ganga river. The priority is to save lives and provide relief to those trapped in the debris.

Uttarkashi Police issued a warning on social media urging residents to maintain a safe distance from the river. They advised keeping children and livestock away from the water due to the increased risk of further flooding. The police emphasized that safety should be everyone's top concern during this crisis.

Eyewitness Accounts

Suresh Semwal, an eyewitness, described the dire situation, noting that numerous hotels were washed away by the floodwaters. He mentioned that approximately 50 hotels in the area were completely submerged, with several villagers trapped. His account highlights the severity of the disaster and its impact on local infrastructure.

State Minister Saurabh Bahuguna expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He stated that saving lives is their main focus as rescue operations continue. "It's a very sad incident," he said, emphasizing that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and SDRF teams are en route to assist those in need.

The flash flood has caused significant damage to properties in Dharali village. Videos show raging waters engulfing houses and toppling buildings while terrified residents scream for help.
