Uttarakhand: Voting for Karnaprayag seat postponed after death of BSP candidate
Polling to Karnaprayag constituency of Uttarakhand postponed due to the death of BSP candidate Kuldeep Singh Kanwasi.
Dehradun, Feb 15: The polling in 69 seats of Uttarakhand assembly elections began on Wednesday morning. However, the Election Commission postponed the voting in Karnaprayag seat as the Bahujan Samaj Party candidate contesting elections from the constituency died in a road accident recently.
Uttarakhand assembly has a total of 70 seats. The voting for Karnaprayag seat will take place on March 9, says poll panel. The BSP candidate Kuldeep Singh Kanwasi was killed and two others were injured when their car fell into a gorge in Chamoli district on Sunday.

"The date for nomination of the new BSP candidate is February 20," the Chief Electoral Officer in Dehradun told reporters. "Scrutiny will take place on February 21. The last date for withdrawal of nomination will be February 23 and polling to the seat will be held on March 9," he added.
Voting for the 69 of a total of 70 assembly seats barring Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand began on Wednesday. Karnaprayag is a high profile constituency from where deputy speaker of the current state assembly Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri is contesting.
