Uttarakhand News: Dhami Government Takes Major Action in Haridwar Land Purchase Scam, Recommends Dismissal of Former Municipal Commissioner

The Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, announces a firm response to the Haridwar land purchase irregularities. Dismissals and disciplinary measures target key officials, signalling zero tolerance for corruption and a push for greater accountability in public administration.

In a major crackdown on corruption, the Uttarakhand government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken strict action in the Haridwar Municipal Corporation land purchase scam, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against corruption.

The state government has recommended the immediate dismissal of former Haridwar Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary for his alleged role in the case. At the same time, former Haridwar District Magistrate Karmendra Singh has been found guilty of serious negligence in the discharge of official duties, and the government has decided to initiate major disciplinary action against him.

According to official sources, recommendations for action against both officers are being sent to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in accordance with service rules. The government has also directed authorities to record an adverse entry in the service record of former Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ajayveer Singh and withhold his next three annual increments.

The Haridwar land purchase case came under scrutiny after allegations of irregularities surfaced in the purchase of land by the Municipal Corporation. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reportedly took a strict stand immediately after preliminary findings pointed towards procedural lapses and misuse of authority.

Following the initial inquiry, several officials, including then District Magistrate Karmendra Singh and former Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary, were suspended. The government later ordered a detailed investigation and audit to thoroughly examine the matter. Officials said the investigation uncovered serious administrative irregularities and lapses in the execution of official responsibilities.

'No Compromise on Corruption'

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reiterated that the government would not compromise in cases involving corruption or misuse of public funds. He stated that transparency, accountability and protection of public interest remain top priorities of the state government.

The Chief Minister said strict action would continue to be taken against any officer found guilty of corruption, negligence or abuse of official position.

The action taken by the Dhami government is being viewed as one of the most significant administrative crackdowns on corruption in Uttarakhand in recent years. Political observers believe the move sends a clear message that misuse of government funds and irregularities in public administration will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
