Uttarakhand Exceeds PMGSY Targets, Receives Central Approval For Bridge Projects

The Central Government has commended Uttarakhand's progress under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), following the state's achievement of constructing 814 km of rural roads in the 2024-25 financial year - 206 km more than the previous year's performance.

In a major development, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has also sanctioned funds for the construction of nine bridges under PMGSY-III, releasing ₹40.77 crore on the last day of the fiscal year.

Financial and Physical Targets Surpassed

Uttarakhand outperformed its financial goals by spending ₹933 crore against the allocated ₹900 crore under PMGSY in 2024-25 - a 33% increase from the previous year's expenditure.

  • Road Construction: 814 km built in 2024-25 (compared to 608 km in 2023-24)
  • Bridge Projects: 9 approved under PMGSY-III with central funding
  • Future Plans: Survey completed for 8,500 km of roads under PMGSY-IV, targeting 1,490 roadless habitations

Tech-Driven Quality Control

To ensure construction quality, the Uttarakhand Rural Development Department has introduced a dedicated inspection app, enabling real-time monitoring of field assessments.

Double-Engine Government's Push for Last-Mile Connectivity

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the state's commitment to linking remote settlements with all-weather roads. "After completing connectivity for villages with 500+ population, we are now focusing on smaller habitations under PMGSY-IV," he said.

Launched in 2000, PMGSY has transformed rural infrastructure across India. With Uttarakhand's latest achievements, the state is poised to further bridge its connectivity gaps in the Himalayan terrain.
