Uttarakhand elections: 200 crorepaties in the fray

There are 200 crorepatis in the fray contesting the Uttarakhand Assembly elections 2017. Uttarakhand would also witness 91 candidates who have declared pending criminal cases against them according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

Criminal Background

Candidates with Criminal Cases: Out of the 637 candidates analysed, 91 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.

Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 54 candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

Candidates with cases related to murder: 5 candidates have declared cases related to murder against themselves.

Candidates with cases related to attempt to murder: 5 candidates have declared cases related to attempt to murder against themselves.

Candidates with cases related to Crimes against Women: 5 candidates have declared cases related to crimes against women.

Party wise Candidates with Criminal Cases: 19 out of 70 candidates from Bhartiya Janta Party have pending criminal cases against them. The Congress has 7 such candidates while the BSP 4.

Financial background:

Crorepati Candidates: Out of the 637 candidates analysed, 200 are crorepatis.

Party wise Crorepati Candidates: 52 out of 70 candidates from INC, 48 out of 70 candidates from BJP and 19 out of 69 candidates from BSP have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.

Average assets: The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2017 is Rs 1.57 Crores.

Party wise average assets: Among the major parties, the average assets per candidate for 70 BJP candidates is Rs 4.20 Crores, 70 INC candidates have average assets of Rs 3.08 Crores and 69 BSP candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.55 Crores.

Zero asset candidates: There are no candidates have declared zero assets in his self-sworn affidavits.
