Uttarakhand: 8 Killed, Several Injured As Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge Near Suni Bridge
In a tragic accident on Tuesday, a vehicle carrying 13 passengers plunged into a gorge near Suni Bridge in Muwani town, located in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, resulting in the death of eight individuals. The incident has left the region in shock and triggered a swift response from emergency and rescue teams.
Confirming the incident, Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Rekha Yadav said that police and local rescue personnel immediately reached the crash site and launched operations to retrieve bodies and rescue the injured. The cause of the accident remains unclear, though mechanical failure or poor road conditions are suspected.

According to initial reports, the vehicle was traveling to a nearby village when it went out of control and fell into a deep ravine. All injured passengers have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives and offered his condolences to the affected families. In a statement released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Dhami directed the district administration and rescue agencies to conduct operations on a priority basis and ensure immediate, free medical care for the injured.
Local villagers also joined hands in the rescue efforts, while ambulances transported the injured to the hospital. Officials said that more details would be shared once the rescue and recovery operations are complete.
This accident is the latest in a series of such incidents reported from Uttarakhand's treacherous hill roads, especially during the monsoon season, which significantly increases the risk of travel.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the precise cause of the crash, even as the district administration continues coordinated relief efforts at the scene.
