After a strike that began on August 30 due to alleged police brutality, lawyers in Uttar Pradesh have called off their protest following positive talks with Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra. The Bar Council president Shiv Kishore Gaur stated that all cases registered against advocates during the movement will be dropped and demands for suspension and transfer of guilty police officers have been accepted.

The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday night, announced the cessation of the statewide strike by lawyers after a successful dialogue with the chief secretary. This announcement brings an end to a 15-day long protest that had been initiated by lawyers across Uttar Pradesh since August 30 following alleged police lathi-charge on advocates in Hapur.

The Chief Secretary has assured that all cases registered against advocates during this period of protests will be dropped. "The talks with Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra were very positive," said Shiv Kishore Gaur, President of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council.

Committee For Advocates Protection Law Formed

As part of the resolution process, Gaur also announced that a committee has been constituted to look into matters concerning advocate protection laws. He stated that this committee would include representation from both the government and Bar Council and would work towards passing a proposal for such law within specified time limits.

Demand For Police Action Accepted

Gaur further added that their demand for suspension and transfer of guilty police officers in Hapur was accepted by the government. "The government has accepted our demand for suspension of guilty police officers and transfer of top police officers in Hapur," he said while announcing their decision to call off the strike.

Allahabad High Court Bar Association's Stand

In an interesting turn of events, Ashok Kumar Singh, president of Allahabad High Court Bar Association seemed unaware about these developments when he declared continuation of their strike on Friday. He stated they will discuss these latest updates from bar council in their meeting scheduled tomorrow morning and then decide the future course of action.

In conclusion, this development signifies a major breakthrough in the ongoing tussle between the lawyers and government officials in Uttar Pradesh. The successful dialogue with Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has not only brought an end to the statewide strike but also paved way for further discussions on important issues such as advocate protection laws. However, it remains to be seen how Allahabad High Court Bar Association reacts to this latest decision from Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.
