US worried as anti-Semitism grows among its people

Although a survey conducted by the American Jewish Committee has spotted a worrying trend, it must be noted that the US has a history of anti-Semitism.

Anti-Semitism is rising in the US and this is quite disturbing as it also happens to be the second home for Jews. According to the latest survey carried out to study people's perception about Jews by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), more than four in ten Jews in the US are worried about their future in the country.

The survey claims that the surveyed Jews feel their status in America is less secure than it was a year earlier. Sociologists too are concerned about the rising anti-Semitism and trying to know what could be the recent rise. Jews in the US have faced violent attacks recently. Earlier, a hostage crisis took place at a Texas synagogue.

US worried as anti-Semitism grows among its people

However, a major worry has been anti-Jewish statements from celebrities like Kanye West which could just spiral the anti-Semitic feelings among the US citizens. The survey claims that 41% of the respondents admit that Jews' status in the country is insecure. Nearly 90% of US Jews believe anti-Semitism is a serious problem. In 2016, this number used to be 73%.

Deep-seated anti-Semitism

Although the AJC survey has spotted a worrying trend, it must be noted that the US has a history of anti-Semitism. Earlier, similar trends were spotted in a similar survey carried out in 2019 by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Then too, the stories of increased anti-Semitism in the US had become mainstream.

The ADL survey had then reported that nearly 1,879 attacks were recorded against Jews on the individual and institutional level in the year 2018. Not just the surveys but various studies too tell that Jews were the most likely of any group to get targeted. Similar sentiments were spotted by the American Enterprise Institute in a study it carried out in 2018.

The two terrorists had killed six people and injured many.

Not just that the White supremacists have been targeting Jews in the US but the immigrants from the Arab countries and countries like Pakistan have been known for their anti-Semitic sentiments.
