US Vice President JD Vance Arrives in India; Delhi Issues Day-Long Traffic Advisory

United States Vice President JD Vance arrived in the national capital Delhi on Monday morning, beginning his first official visit to India. Accompanied by his wife, Usha, and their three children, Vance landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport around 9:30 a.m., marking the start of a four-day diplomatic and cultural engagement scheduled from April 21 to 24.

As part of his official itinerary, Vance is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 6:30 p.m. today at the latter's residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The visit will focus on strengthening bilateral trade, regional security, and strategic cooperation between the two democracies.

In light of the high-profile visit, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a detailed advisory warning of traffic restrictions across key areas of the city throughout the day. Commuters have been urged to avoid affected zones, use public transport where possible, and allow for additional travel time.

Morning Restrictions (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM)

Parking is prohibited on Sardar Patel Marg, Gurugram Road, Parade Road, Thimmaiya Marg, and Air Force Road. Vehicles parked in violation will be towed to Kalibari Mandir Marg near Bhairon Temple.

Suggested alternative routes:

• From 11 Murti to RML Hospital: Vande Mataram Marg via Dhaula Kuan Flyover, continuing through Shankar Road and Sheikh Mujibur Rehman Marg

Airport commuters: Rao Tula Ram Marg

• Midday Restrictions (11:00 AM - 2:00 PM)
• No halting or parking is allowed on C-Hexagon, Janpath Road, Sikandra Road, Firoz Shah Road, MNLP Road, Vikas Marg, and the Noida Link Road near Akshardham.

Suggested alternative routes:

• From Dr. Rajendra Prasad Marg to Janpath: Raisina Road → Windsor Place → Ashoka Road → C-Hexagon
• From Connaught Place to Janpath: Ashoka Road
• From Zakir Hussain Marg to C-Hexagon: Mathura Road T-point

Evening Restrictions (6:00 PM - 9:00 PM)

• Traffic will again be restricted on Sardar Patel Marg, Kamal Ataturk Road, Gurugram Road, Parade Road, Thimmaiya Marg, and Air Force Road, in coordination with the Prime Minister's meeting.
• Suggested detours: Vande Mataram Marg, Rao Tula Ram Marg

Authorities have requested citizens, especially those traveling to railway stations, airports, or ISBTs, to plan ahead to avoid delays.

Following engagements in Delhi, the Vice President and his family are expected to visit Akshardham Temple, travel to Jaipur on Tuesday, and proceed to Agra on Wednesday. The delegation will depart India on Thursday morning.
