This year, UPSC introduced a new One-Time Registration (OTR) system. All candidates were required to register on this portal before applying for the exam. The OTR profile only needs to be created once and remains valid for all future UPSC exams. Those who had already registered were allowed to proceed directly with the application form for the Preliminary Examination.

UPSC CSE Prelims 2025: Exam Pattern

The Civil Services Examination is conducted in two major phases: Prelims and Mains. The Prelims serves as a qualifying screening test. It consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper I and CSAT (Paper II), carrying a total of 400 marks. The exam includes multiple-choice questions, and incorrect answers incur a penalty of one-third of the marks assigned to that question. There is no penalty for unanswered questions.

UPSC CSE Prelims 2025: Passing Criteria

To qualify for the Mains stage, candidates must obtain at least 33% marks in CSAT and also meet the cutoff score for General Studies Paper I, as determined by the Commission. Based on these criteria, a list of shortlisted candidates will be prepared.

What Happens After the Prelims Result?

Once the result is announced, all candidates who have cleared the Prelims will be required to fill out the Detailed Application Form-I (DAF-I) in order to proceed to the Mains Examination. The Commission will soon release a notification specifying the guidelines and deadlines for submitting the DAF-I.
