New Delhi, Apr 30: Opposition JD(U) on Thursday created uproar in the Rajya Sabha over alleged sale of 'controversial' Ayurvedic medicines by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev.

JD(U) MP KC Tyagi on Thursday questioned the medicine 'Putra Jeevak Beej' reportedly sold by Yoga Guru's Patanjali Pharmacy. The JD(U) leader has claimed that this medicine helps a woman conceive only 'male child', which is a crime.

Showing the packets in the Upper House, Tyagi said, "PM Modi is talking about saving the girl child and he has even launched programmes to stop female foeticide, but the BJP government in Haryana is making someone its brand ambassador who's selling illegal medicines."

Earlier last month, the Haryana government had decided to give "status equivalent to Cabinet Minister" to Ramdev, who has been appointed as the State's brand ambassador to promote yoga and Ayurveda.

"Ramdev, Brand Ambassador for promotion of yoga and ayurveda in Haryana, will be given status equivalent to Cabinet Minister," Haryana's Health and Sports Minister, Anil Vij had said on Twitter.

Vij had earlier said a herbal forest would be developed in the State where plants of thousands of species of Ayurvedic herbs would be grown under the supervision of Baba Ramdev.

Notably, last month, Haryana Assembly had witnessed uproarious scenes as the BJP government came under sharp attack from opposition Congress for allegedly "going out of way to please Ramdev by making him the brand ambassador" for promotion of yoga and Ayurveda in the State.
