UPI Down Again! Users Face Digital Payments Disruption Across The Country

Unifed Payments Interface (UPI) users across the country faced disruptions while making digital payments, marking it the third instance of technical difficulties in less than a month. Reports of failed transactions began to surface around 11:26 a.m., as noted by outage-tracking website DownDetector, with the number of complaints reaching over 222 by approximately 11:40 a.m. This widespread inconvenience affected various apps, highlighting a pressing concern for the digital payment ecosystem in the country.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), responsible for managing the UPI infrastructure, acknowledged the issue. They revealed that intermittent technical glitches were causing a portion of UPI transactions to be declined. "NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue, and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused," was the message shared by NPCI on X. Their commitment to addressing the problem and ensuring minimal disruption to digital payments was evident.

Social media platforms saw a surge in users voicing their frustrations over the inability to make payments through third-party apps like Paytm, Google Pay, and PhonePe. One user on X highlighted the lack of communication from service providers, stating, "UPI is down again today, all payments are getting failed. At least there should be prior intimation sent in case of planned outage." Another user shared their personal predicament, "I was not carrying cash and this downtime placed me in an awkward situation while paying fare to auto wala. Please, we need a zero-downtime UPI infra." These comments underscore the reliance on UPI for daily transactions and the inconvenience caused by such outages.
