Rahul Gandhi takes on Modi in Gujarat
Bardoli (Gujarat), Feb 8: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi arrived in Gujarat on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Gujarat CM Narendra Modi saying that the latter didn't know history.

2.10 pm: Rahul hits out at the Gujarat government

"The Opposition questions our functioning. We say we want to remove poverty, the Opposition wants to remove the poor," he said. "People in Gujarat first go to jail, then become ministers," he said.

Hitting out at the 'tea-vendor' image of Narendra Modi, Rahul said: "You must respect all 'chai-wallas' but not those who make a fool out of you. Everyone from the chai-wallas to the farmers must be respected," he said.

2.02 pm: Rahul praises UPA's achievements

"It is the Congress party that brought in the Lokpal Bill. It is the Congress party that introduced the Land Acquisition Bill and waived off the debts of poor farmers," he said.

Pointing put the flaws in the Gujarat government he said that there was just one RTI Commissioner in Gujarat when there should be ten. "13,000 government schools have closed down in Gujarat. Representatives of farmers came to me and said that they were being turned out of Gujarat," he said.

1.57 pm: Rahul makes an indirect jibe at Modi.

Making an indirect dig at Narendra Modi, Rahul said: "Political leader in Gujarat doesn't read history, doesn't know history. They are distorting facts about Sardar Patel."

"They say whatever they feel like whenever they feel like irrespective of the situation. They say they will make Sardar Patel statue but they will never read history about Patel or his ideologies," he said. He said that the BJP talks about corruption but they can't see corruption in Gujarat.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to take on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on his turf as he addresses a rally in Bardoli.

12.49 pm: Rahul Gandhi participates in padyatra

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today arrived in Gujarat and participated in 'Vikas Khoj Yatra,' a padyatra organised by the party. He was seen participating in the event and mingled with the workers of the youth Congress.

Gandhi will be going towards Bardoli to address a rally.
