Assembly poll: 61% polling recorded in Jharkhand, 58% polling recorded in Jammu & Kashmir
Srinagar/Ranchi, Dec 9: Third phase of assembly elections began on Tuesday, Dec 9 in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. Security has been stepped up in both the states following the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Polling is being held in 17 seats in Jharkhand and 16 in Jammu and Kashmir. In Jharkhand, 289 candidates, including 26 women, are in the fray for 17 of the total 81 assembly constituencies.

In the third phase, the electoral fate of 289 candidates will be decided by 50,16,657 voters, including 23,55,728 women.
In Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and three of his cabinet colleagues are among 144 candidates whose fate will be decided today in the third phase of polling in 16 seats spread across Budgam, Pulwama and Baramulla districts.
A large number of Kashmiri Migrant voters of Baramulla, Pulwama and Budgam districts are casting their voters in various polling booths established for them in Jammu, Udhampur and delhi in third phase of polling.
More than 19 thousand Kashmiri migrant voters hailing from these districts are though eligible to cast votes. But only six thousand and one hundred migrant voters can cast votes as rest of them have not filled M- forms and thus can not vote .
More than 114 polling booths have been established by Election Commission for these migrants in Jammu, 4 in delhi and 1 in Udhampur.
6.30 pm: "We have recorded overall polling percentage of 61% for 3rd phase of Jharkhand Assembly election, might go up by 1 or 2%", says Election Commission.
6.15 pm: "We have recorded overall polling percentage of 58% in J&K for this phase", says Election Commission in a press conference.
6.00 pm: BJP State Spokesperson Suresh Ajay Magotra says, ""The massive participation of the Kashmiri people in PM Narendra Modi's rally at Srinagar has very clearly reflected the acceptance of BJP across the entire length and breadth of the Valley, in tune with Ladakh and Jammu."
5.30 pm: PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while addressing a rally at Khiram in south Kashmir, says, "The people of Jammu and Kashmir have displayed maturity and wisdom in this election and have send out a loud and clear message that they want the problems facing the state resolved through democratic process."
5.00 pm: Migrant voters say that they hope that new government and also their elected representatives will take all measures for the permanent rehabilitation and welfare.
4.15 pm: Stray incidents of violence fails to dampen voter enthusiasm, with a quarter of votes being polled by afternoon.
4.00 pm: Polling ends peacefully in Jharkhand as well as Jammu and Kashmir.
3.47 pm: Jharkhand records nearly 55% voting till 3 pm.
3.30 pm: Voter turnout till 2 pm: 62% in Uri, 55% in Chrar-i-Sharief, 54% in Khansahib and Gulmarg, 51% in Rafiabad, 49% in Chadoora, 47% in Pattan, Budgam and Beerwah, 45% in Sangrama, 40.25% in Rajpora, 36.56% in Pampore, 30.74% in Baramulla, 28% in Tral and Pulwama and 23.13% in Sopore.
2.40 pm: Polling percentage phase-3 at 1.00 pm on Tuesday. With 50% turnout, Chrar-e-Sharief tops:
