New Rail Lines Set to Enhance Connectivity to Simlipal Forest Reserve and Boost Odisha's Local Economy
The foundation stones for three railway lines in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district were laid by President Droupadi Murmu. This initiative aims to improve connectivity to the Simlipal forest reserve and stimulate local economic growth, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The projects include the Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia, and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh rail lines.

Vaishnaw highlighted the significance of Simlipal, a UNESCO World Network biosphere reserve, as one of the world's top 50 destinations. "According to Time Magazine, if you have to visit 50 best places in the world, Simlipal is one of those," he stated. The new rail lines will facilitate tourist access to Simlipal and other cultural sites.
Economic and Developmental Impact
The minister emphasised that these rail projects will not only enhance tourism but also create business opportunities and strengthen the local economy. The entire Mayurbhanj district and northern Odisha will benefit from these developments. Additionally, the new infrastructure will support industrial growth in nearby areas.
Railway officials noted that constructing these lines over mineral-rich regions will boost freight movement. This development is expected to positively impact industrial zones in the vicinity. The government plans to invest Rs 73,000 crore in these projects, with Rs 20,000 crore already sanctioned.
Focus on Backward Areas
The new rail lines are set to accelerate growth in underdeveloped regions of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts in Odisha, as well as East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand. This initiative aims to bridge developmental gaps and provide better connectivity for these areas.
Overall, the railway projects are poised to transform transportation and economic landscapes in Odisha. By enhancing connectivity and supporting industrial activities, they promise significant benefits for local communities and businesses alike.
