UPA boosted India's power generation capacity: PM

The prime minister said this after laying the foundation stone of a nuclear power plant in this village in Haryana's Fatehabad district.
The first phase (1,400 MW) of the 2,800-MW Haryana Nuclear Power Project (Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojna) would be completed by 2020-21 at a cost of over Rs 21,000 crore, the prime minister said.
"Our government has laid a lot of emphasis on the power sector. The power generation capacity enhancement in the last 10 years is higher than what was achieved in the previous 55 years since independence," he said.
The plant will come up in Gorakhpur village, 250 km from Chandigarh.
