UP Wonder: 40-year-old woman's 'missing' kidney found in her chest

Lucknow, Aug 6: Moradabad-based doctor, Vinay Kumar witnessed a rarest of the rare cases recently. Initially, he was confused but later he realised that he would be one among those doctors who disclose an unusual story of medical history to the world.

Dr Vinay, the radiologist, stated that he was surprised when 40-year-old Mira (name changed) came to his hospital for treatment. Mira complained of having stomach pain.

Heart

The doctor asked Mira to go for an ultrasound scan as he was expecting her case to be another routine case. However, the ultrasound scan report perplexed the Dr Vinay who found that Mira's right kidney was missing.

Dr Vinay conducted a few more tests on Mira and finally discovered her 'missing' kidney in her chest. Speaking about the incident, Dr Vinay was quoted as saying, "The left kidney was at its place but the right one was in the chest, which was revealed by the X-Ray. Mira, however, did not have any problems related to the kidneys."

Dr Vinay, meanwhile, also confirmed that Mira complained about stomach due to some other reasons, but not due to kidney problem. Despite the abnormality, which is called trans diaphragmatic thoracic ectopic kidney, Mira has been living a normal life.

While confirming that there's no need to perform any surgery on Mira, Dr Vinay said, "Though ectopic kidneys do not normally create problems, the patients having such kidneys are prone to diseases like kidney stone or tuberculosis of kidney."
