UP Woman Caught In Multiple Marriage Scam To Buy Buffaloes

A college in Hasanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was transformed into a wedding hall on Sunday for a mass marriage ceremony. Over 300 brides and grooms, accompanied by their families, were prepared for the rituals.

The stage was set. However, unexpected guests made a dramatic entrance, halting the wedding of one of the brides, Asma. These guests turned out to be her in-laws, as Asma was already married.

Woman Caught In Multiple Marriage Scam

It emerged that Asma was attempting to marry for a second time without first obtaining a divorce from her husband. The reason behind her decision is astonishing-she wanted to purchase buffaloes.

Asma married Noor Mohammad three years ago, but the couple reportedly had several disputes. Around six months ago, she moved back to her parents' home. Their divorce case remains pending in court.

Upon learning about a government-organised mass wedding, which provided various benefits, including ₹35,000 for the bride under the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme, Asma decided to marry her cousin, Jaber Ahmed.

The pair allegedly planned to divide the money and the gifts provided by the government during the ceremony. These included a dinner set, two sets of clothing for both the bride and groom, a wall clock, a vanity kit, a dupatta, silver toe rings and anklets, and a lunch box.

They had also planned to use the cash to buy buffaloes.

However, their scheme was exposed when Asma's father-in-law arrived at the venue with her marriage certificate.

Chief Development Officer Ashwini Kumar referred the matter to the police, and a case has been registered against Asma and Jaber for violating the rules of the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme, attempting to unlawfully benefit from the programme, and obstructing government work.
