UP News: Over 23 Lakh Women Provided Employment Under Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in UP

Uttar Pradesh reports substantial gains under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in 2025-26, with over 23 lakh women engaged and ₹111 crore credited to women supervisors. The programme strengthens rural livelihoods, promotes women's leadership within NRLM networks, and ensures timely payments, advancing inclusive rural growth.

Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme during the financial year 2025–26. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state has provided employment to over 23 lakh women, strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting women’s economic self-reliance.

The MGNREGA programme has played a crucial role in boosting incomes in rural areas. So far, around 32,000 women have been appointed as supervisors, with more than ₹111 crore directly credited to their bank accounts. Timely and transparent payments have increased confidence in government welfare initiatives.

Priority is being given to women associated with self-help groups under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). Their selection as supervisors has not only created employment opportunities but also helped develop leadership, administrative, and management skills among rural women.

According to official data, over 97 percent of workers under the scheme have received timely payments, reflecting improved transparency and efficiency in implementation. During the current financial year, a total expenditure of ₹6,703 crore has been recorded under the scheme, contributing significantly to village development, local job creation, and reduced migration.

Special emphasis has been placed on ensuring benefits reach Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth. Through effective implementation of the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Uttar Pradesh continues to lay a strong foundation for sustainable rural livelihoods, empowering millions of families and building a resilient rural economy.
