UP Panchayat Polls Ahead: Yogi Govt To Hold Farmer Registry Camps In Every Village Till April 15

Ahead of the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government is set to launch a large-scale village outreach drive focused on farmers. Under the campaign, special camps will be organised at gram secretariats across the state to complete the Farmer Registry process and ensure eligible farmers can access government welfare schemes in a transparent and hassle-free manner.

Special Camps To Be Held In Every Gram Secretariat

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a special statewide mission to prepare a comprehensive Farmer Registry so that crores of farmers can receive the benefits of government schemes more smoothly. The campaign will run in mission mode till April 15, 2026, and will be carried out at every gram secretariat in the state.

The main aim of the initiative is to simplify access to welfare schemes for farmers while reducing corruption and eliminating the role of middlemen. Under the drive, special camps will be set up in the secretariats of every gram panchayat, where farmers will be digitally registered.

Once registered, farmers will be able to receive benefits under schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan), along with other agricultural subsidies and government support, directly into their bank accounts without unnecessary delays.

BJP Signals Readiness For Panchayat Elections

The announcement comes at a time when political activity around the Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections is picking up pace. On Monday, UP BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary said that the party is fully prepared for the upcoming polls. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also indicated that the elections would be held on time.

Amid these political signals, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has intensified the government's focus on rural areas. The farmer-centric campaign is being seen not only as an administrative exercise but also as a significant outreach initiative in villages ahead of the local body elections.

Lekhpals, Panchayat Secretaries And Village Heads Given Clear Responsibility

To make the campaign effective, the state government has issued strict operational instructions. Active participation of the gram pradhan, panchayat secretary and lekhpal has been made mandatory at each camp.

Lekhpal officials have been specifically directed to remain personally present at at least one camp in every gram panchayat under their jurisdiction. They have also been asked to resolve farmers' grievances and name-related errors on the spot during the camps.

This on-the-spot correction mechanism is expected to save farmers from repeated visits to tehsil offices, a common issue in rural administrative processes. Officials have also been told to inform farmers about the required documents and complete the registration process at the camp itself.

Over 1.72 Crore Farmers Already Registered

According to official government figures, 1,72,06,355 farmers in Uttar Pradesh have already been linked to the Farmer Registry so far. However, the government's larger target is to bring every eligible farmer in the state into the digital database.

That is why the administration has fixed April 15 as the deadline for this intensified campaign. The state wants to ensure that no eligible farmer is left out before the registry becomes a key access point for agricultural support and subsidies.

Governance Push Before Polls Seen As Strategic Move

Political observers believe the decision to hold camps in villages just before the panchayat elections could help the government strengthen its connect with rural voters. The Farmer Registry is expected to create a more accurate and reliable database of beneficiaries, which can also improve transparency in the future distribution of fertilisers, seeds and pesticides.

Beyond electoral timing, the initiative is also being viewed as a step towards strengthening rural governance through technology. By linking farmers directly with welfare delivery systems, the Yogi government is attempting to advance its broader Digital Village vision while projecting an image of transparent and efficient administration.
