UP govt to move HC to cancel Gayatri Prajapati bail

Former state minister Gayatri Prajapati, who was granted bail in a gangrape case on Tuesday, will stay in jail after two courts ordered that he be remanded to judicial custody.

Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday decided to approach the high court to seek cancellation of rape-accused Gayatri Prajapati's bail.

Former state minister Gayatri Prajapati, who was granted bail in a gangrape case on Tuesday, will stay in jail after two courts ordered that he be remanded to judicial custody in connection with two other cases on Wednesday.

The Lucknow Police served court warrants in both cases at the district jail, where Prajapati is lodged since March 15.

Supreme Court on Monday had directed the UP government to ensure protection of the woman who had lodged FIR against Gayatri for raping her and molesting her daughter.

Earlier this year, a middle-aged woman from Chitrakoot had moved Supreme Court accusing Prajapati and his aides of raping her and molesting her daughter. The apex court on February 17 ordered that FIR should be lodged against the then minister. Prajapati and his aides were booked by Gautampalli police for raping the woman and sexually assaulting her minor daughter.
