UP elections: 116 candidates have criminal record

The average of assets per candidate contesting in the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections is Rs 1.90 Crores.

In the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections there are 116 candidates with a criminal record. Out of 680 candidates analyzed, 116 candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves, says a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

95 candidates have declared serious criminal cases, including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women etc.

There are 21 constituencies in the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections having 3 or more candidates with declared criminal cases. Red Alert Constituencies are those which have 3 or more candidates with criminal cases contesting elections.

Crorepati Candidates:

Out of the 680 candidates, 189 are crorepatis. 45 out of 53 candidates from BSP, 36 out of 48 candidates from BJP, 26 out of 33 candidates from SP, 17 out of 25 candidates from INC, 6 out of 39 candidates from RLD and 25 out of 200 Independent candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

The average of assets per candidate contesting in the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections is Rs 1.90 Crores. Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 25 INC candidates is Rs. 5.98 crores, 48 BJP candidates is Rs 5.96 crores, 53 BSP candidates have average assets of Rs 5.82 crores, 33 SP candidates have average assets worth Rs 4.29 crores, 39 RLD candidates have average assets worth Rs 75.76 lakhs, and 200 Independent candidates have average assets of Rs. 1 crore.

One candidate fromSamajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) namely Indrakar Mishra contesting from Pratapgarh constituency has declared zero assets in his self sworn affidavits.
