UP Police Inspector Faces Suspension and Investigation for Bribery

A police inspector has been suspended and is now under investigation after Rs 9.96 lakh in cash was found at his home during an anti-corruption raid on Thursday, officials reported. Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya stated that the raid was prompted by confidential information suggesting Inspector Ramsevak, who heads the Faridpur police station, had taken a bribe to release two suspects in a drug-related case.

Bribery Allegations and Suspects

The suspects, Alam and Niyaz Ahmad, were detained under the NDPS Act and brought to the police station. However, they were released after Inspector Ramsevak allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 7 lakh, according to Arya. The raid, led by Faridpur Circle Officer Gaurav Singh, uncovered the cash at the inspector's residence.

Escape and Legal Actions

When the Circle Officer arrived at the police station, Inspector Ramsevak fled the scene, Arya added. An FIR has been filed against Ramsevak under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, based on a complaint by the Circle Officer.

The inspector has been suspended, and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend him, Arya said. Further legal proceedings will follow as the investigation continues.
