UP CM Yogi Adityanath Hands Over Flats Built On Land Recovered From Mukhtar Ansari

Yogi Adityanath distributed keys to 72 affordable flats in Lucknow, built on reclaimed land. The initiative aims to provide housing for the Economically Weaker Section and combat illegal land possession.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed keys to flats built on land previously occupied by Mukhtar Ansari, a former mafia-turned-politician. The event took place in the upscale Dalibagh area of Lucknow. Seventy-two beneficiaries from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) received these flats during a ceremony at Ekta Van, opposite the Director General of Police's residence. Adityanath personally handed over keys to ten allottees.

The flats were constructed under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme and are priced at Rs 10.70 lakh each. The allotment was determined through a lottery system completed on November 4, 2025. This initiative is part of the chief minister's zero-tolerance policy against illegal land possession by mafias across Uttar Pradesh.

Project Details and Registration

Prathamesh Kumar, Vice-Chairman of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), stated that three G+3 blocks with 72 flats were built on approximately 2,322 square metres of reclaimed land. Each flat measures 36.65 square metres. The online registration for this scheme ran from October 4 to November 3, attracting nearly 8,000 registrations, highlighting significant demand for affordable housing.

Mukhtar Ansari, who had been imprisoned since 2005 in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, passed away on March 28, 2024, due to cardiac arrest in Banda hospital. He was a five-time MLA from Mau Sadar and faced over 60 criminal cases. By September 2022, he had been sentenced in eight cases by various courts in Uttar Pradesh.

Affordable Housing Initiative

The flats' pricing is notably lower than the market rate of around Rs 1 crore for such prime locations. The housing complex offers modern amenities like clean water supply, electricity, security, two-wheeler parking facilities, and external developments such as roads and parks to improve residents' quality of life.

The lottery system for flat allocation was conducted after an online registration process that spanned from October to early November. This process underscored the high demand among economically weaker sections for affordable housing in prime city areas.

Yogi Adityanath expressed his gratitude during the event: "I am fortunate that on this day (Kartik Purnima), I am here in Lucknow at this event of allotment of houses built on a land freed from the encroachment of an infamous mafia..."

This initiative reflects the government's commitment to reclaiming illegally occupied lands and providing affordable housing solutions to those in need. It also highlights efforts to enhance urban living conditions through well-planned residential projects with essential amenities.
