UP assembly has lesser MLAs with criminal background compared to 2012
At least 36 per cent of the MLAs in the new Uttar Pradesh assembly have declared criminal cases against them. Out of the 402 MLAs analysed, 143 MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves. In the 2012 assembly there were 189 MLAs with a criminal background against them according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

107 MLAs have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder etc. Out of 403 MLAs analysed during Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2012, 98 MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
8 MLAs have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section 302) against themselves.
34 MLAs have declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) against themselves.
1 BJP MLA namely Ashok Kumar Rana who won from Dhampur constituency has declared case related to crime against women, such as assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Party wise MLAs with criminal cases: 114(37%)out of 312 MLAs from BJP, 14(30%) out of 46 MLAs from SP, 5 (26%) out of 19 MLAs from BSP, 1(14%) out of 7 MLAs from INC and 3 (100%) out 3 Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
83 (27%)out of 312 MLAs from BJP, 11(24%) out of 46 MLAs from SP, 4 (21%) out of 19 MLAs from BSP, 1(14%) out of 7 MLAs from INC and 3 (100%) out 3 Independent MLAs have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Financial
Out of the 402 newly elected MLAs analysed, 322 (80%) are crorepatis. Out of 403 MLAs analysed during Uttar Pradesh 2012 assembly elections, 271(67%) MLAs were crorepatis.
3 MLAs in Uttar Pradesh with lowest assets have their assets valued less than Rs 10 lakhs, and they are as follows:
246 (79%)out of 312 MLAs from BJP,39 (85%) out of 46 MLAs from SP,18 (95%) out of 19 MLAs from BSP, 5 (71%) out of 7 MLAs from INC, and 3 (100 %) out of 3 Independent MLAs have declared assets valued more than Rs 1 crore.
The average of assets per MLA who won in the Uttar Pradesh 2017 assembly elections is Rs.5.92 crores whereas the average asset for each candidate who contested in the 2017 assembly elections was Rs 1.90 crores.In 2012, the average assets per MLA analyzed was Rs 3.36 crores.
