On May 2, the CBI submitted its progress report in the Unnao rape case before the Allahabad High Court and sought transfer of the case to Lucknow. The report was submitted in a sealed cover before a bench comprising Chief Justice D B Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar.

Taking cognisance of a petition by senior advocate Gopal Swaroop Chaturvedi demanding a court-monitored investigation into the case, the HC had on April 13 directed the investigative agency to file the status report in the case by May 2. The court had then set May 21 as the next day of the hearing.

Sengar was arreested April 13 by the CBI. He was arrested after over 15 hours of questioning by the top investigative agency.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested on Saturday (May 5) night another person in connection with the attack on the Unnao rape victim girl's father that caused his death. The agency procured his four-day police custody remand from a city court on Sunday.

With that, the CBI has so far arrested eight people, including the BJP MLA, his brother Atul Singh Sengar and their five aides, including a woman Shashi Singh.

The girl's father was allegedly falsely framed in a case of possessing illicit arms and sent to jail on the complaint of one Tinku, after been beaten up by the MLA's brother and his goons on the evening of April 3. The girl's father was then lodged in Unnao district jail without proper medical treatment resulting in his death in the Unnao district hospital on April 9.

An application was on May 2 moved on behalf of the victim's mother demanding an enquiry to trace Tinku Singh, who had lodged an FIR against the girl's father under the Arms Act.
