Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat, one of the three personnel who lost his life in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag on Wednesday, was laid to rest on Thursday.

As hundreds of people bid farewell to him in Budgam, it has now been reported that he had called his family members and colleagues after getting wounded in the gunfight with terrorists, according to a report in Tribune.

Unable To Move My Legs: DSP Humayun Bhat Told His Father In His Last Call Before Death

He spoke to his family members in a WhatsApp video call with his family and colleagues until 2:30 pm on Wednesday. During the call, his father, a retired police officer, advised him to descend from the hillock. However, Bhat found his limbs to be numb and informed his father Ghulam Hassan Bhat, "I am unable to move my legs."

A police officer stated, "The soldiers on the ground couldn't rescue him due to the forest being occupied by militants."

Bhat, father of a two-month-old daughter, died due to heavy blood loss, officials said.

Three Army personnel, including a Colonel commanding a battalion and a Major, and a soldier were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in the higher reaches of Kokorenag area in the valley on Wednesday.

The outlawed Resistance Front, suspected to be an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities suspect that this is the identical group of terrorists responsible for the assault on army personnel that occurred on August 4, resulting in the loss of three soldiers in the elevated Halan forest region of Kulgam district.
