Uttarakhand IAS Association Issues Resolution Following BJP MP's Controversial Comments on Illegal Mining

The Uttarakhand IAS Association has expressed concern over remarks made by BJP MP Trivendra Singh Rawat regarding illegal mining. The association emphasised the need for its members to be treated with respect. This resolution was passed during a meeting led by the association's president, Anand Bardhan.

IAS Association Responds to BJP MPs Comments

Rawat recently brought up the issue of illegal mining in Parliament, alleging that trucks were operating without permission at night in several districts, including Dehradun and Haridwar. He claimed these activities were damaging infrastructure due to overloaded trucks.

Resolution and Response

The IAS Association's resolution highlighted the right of its members to self-respect. It urged individuals and organisations to refrain from making statements that could harm the association's members. Secretary Dilip Jawalkar mentioned plans to send this resolution as a memorandum to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

In response to Rawat's allegations, Mining Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant dismissed them as baseless. He pointed out that mining revenue had reached its highest level ever in the current financial year, surpassing targets by Rs 200 crore.

Controversy and Reaction

The controversy arose after Rawat's comments on a private channel, where he allegedly used inappropriate language following Sant's rebuttal. This incident is believed to have prompted the IAS Association's resolution.

The association's decision underscores the importance of maintaining respect for public officials while addressing concerns about illegal activities. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between political figures and administrative bodies in Uttarakhand.

The resolution reflects the association's commitment to safeguarding its members' dignity amid public discourse on sensitive issues like illegal mining. The memorandum to the Chief Minister aims to ensure that such matters are handled with due consideration for all parties involved.
