UK Foreign Secretary Reaches Out To S Jaishankar Amid Speculation Over Sheikh Hasina's Asylum
Amid reports of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina potentially seeking asylum in the UK, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a discussion with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Thursday regarding the situation in Bangladesh and West Asia.
EAM Jaishankar shared on X, "Received a call from UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy today. Discussed the situation in Bangladesh and West Asia."

The ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh has intensified following Sheikh Hasina's resignation on August 5, which led to her moving to India amid growing protests, largely led by students.
These protests, initially focused on ending the quota system for government jobs, have expanded into broader anti-government demonstrations.
As of now, it remains uncertain whether Sheikh Hasina will remain in Delhi or relocate elsewhere. Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, addressed rumors about her seeking asylum, stating, "These are all rumours. She has not made a decision on that yet. She is going to stay in Delhi for a little while." He further added, "Sheikh Hasina is well and now in Delhi. My sister is with her. My sister lives in Delhi... She is well, but very upset."
Meanwhile, members of the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus were sworn in last evening.
