Ujala scheme will save Rs 5.5 crore for Goa: CM
Panaji, July 8: Goa will save Rs 5.5 crores after implementation of Centre's Ujala scheme under which free LED bulbs would be distributed to consumers, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said. "We are providing subsidy of Rs 3 per unit to consumers.
The financial liability on government due to this subsidy comes to around Rs 11 crore annually," he told a gathering after distributing LED bulbs at a function here.

The chief minister said if consumers switch over to LED bulbs, the state will save Rs 5.5 crores, which otherwise it will have to pay to subsidise the power.
Parsekar apprised that Central government has provided LED bulbs at the cost of Rs 76 each under the scheme. "But Goa government in a landmark decision decided to provide three LED bulbs free of cost to each consumer," he said.
He said the LED bulbs would be distributed across 220 to 222 places in the state. The government on Wednesday had announced that it will provide 15 lakh free LED bulbs to 4.89 lakh consumers.
