Fadnavis Questions Uddhav Thackeray's Adherence to Balasaheb Thackeray's Ideology Ahead of Waqf Bill

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has raised questions about whether Uddhav Thackeray, president of Shiv Sena UBT, will adhere to the principles of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. This issue will become clearer when the Waqf Amendment Bill is presented in Parliament. The bill, aimed at enhancing the management of waqf properties, is scheduled for introduction in the Lower House on Wednesday.

Fadnavis Challenges Uddhav on Waqf Bill

Opposition's Stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill

The bill has faced strong opposition from various parties, who argue it is unconstitutional and detrimental to the Muslim community. Prominent Muslim organisations have been actively opposing the bill. It was reviewed by a Joint Committee of Parliament and approved with several changes. Fadnavis commented on X, questioning if Uddhav Thackeray would uphold Balasaheb Thackeray's ideology or align with Rahul Gandhi's approach to appeasement politics.

Shiv Sena UBT's Position

Ambadas Danve, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, responded to Fadnavis' remarks by stating that his party's position will be revealed in Parliament. The Shiv Sena UBT holds nine seats in the Lok Sabha and two in the Rajya Sabha. Notably, their MLAs were absent during last year's Lok Sabha debate on the bill.

The unfolding events around this bill will reveal whether Uddhav Thackeray aligns with his party's traditional values or chooses a different path. The outcome could significantly impact political dynamics within Maharashtra and beyond.
