Two get three years' RI in disproportionate assets case
Chennai, Feb 27: A Central Excise official and his wife have been sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case filed by CBI in 2007.
N Muralidharan,Additional District Judge and Special Judge for CBI cases, Coimbatore, sentenced K Subramanian, Superintendent, Central Excise, and his wife Kasthuri to three years' RI on Friday, CBI said in a release here today.

The agency's Anti Corruption Branch had registered and investigated the case "on the allegations" that Subramanian, as Superintendent at Mettupalayam and Coimbatore and Assistant Commissioner, Mumbai during the check period of 2003 and 2007, had "acquired assets in his name and in the name of his wife disproportionate to their known sources of income."
The couple were chargesheeted under relevant grafts provisions of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, it said adding they were convicted and sentenced to three years' RI yesterday.
The court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them and "orders were also passed to confiscate the Fixed Deposit of Rs 18 lakh held by the accused," it added.
