TV actor Shobhit Attray arrested for dowry harassment

New Delhi, June 2: Small screen actor Shobhit Attray was on Sunday taken into police remand after his wife levelled allegations of dowry harassment against him.

Attray, who acted in a popular TV serial "Na aana is desh laado" and few more serials, was arrested by the Haryana police from his residence in Meerut distict, Uttar Pradesh.

According to a TOI report, Attray's wife has also alleged that her brother-in-law also sexually harassed her.

Police sources said that Attray's father threatened that he would not allow them to arrest his son by showing them revolver.

Attray and his wife Nisha has a 1- year-old baby boy. In her police compalint, Nisha has alleged that her husband used to torture her for not bringing more dowry and sent her to his parents' home in Meerut from Mumbai.

But when his family also harassed her, then she returned to her parents home and filed complaint against Attray and her brother-in-law.

Attary's fans and lawyers also gathered at his home to stop his arrest.

Nisha, who hails from Jagadhri city in Yamuna Nagar district of Haryana is a B.Tech graduate and got married to Shobhit on 30 January, 2012.

According to Aaj Tak report, Nisha claimed that her in-laws started torturing her soon after marriage. Shobhit left for Mumbai alone after 10 days of marriage. Even her baby boy was born at her parents' home in Haryana, but shockingly, her in- laws refused to accept him as their family member.

Nisha also said that they demanded for child's DNA test and demanded Rs 10 lakh from her family.

Attray's arrest comes at a time when he is all set to make debut in forthcoming Bollywood film "Tere Ishq mein".
