Sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran on Tuesday arrived in Bengaluru to meet his aunt VK Sasikala, who is lodged in Parappana Agrahara Prison. It was earlier reported that the aide of former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa is on a 'maun vrat' (Vow of silence).
It is not yet known if Sasikala is still on 'Maun Vrat' or whether she has ended it. In an earlier statement, Dinakaran had said that Sasikala would continue her 'vow of silence' till the end of January.
On January 24, it was reported that the IT department had issued summons to her in the first week of January to question her regarding the searches that were conducted at her place in November 2017. Sasikala had then communicated to the prison authorities that she cannot speak until her 'maun vrat' is over.
Sasikala is serving a four year jail term in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case after the Supreme Court convicted her and two others in February last year.
In November 2017, over Rs 1,400 crore of unaccounted income was recovered during the raids at the premises of Jaya TV and VK Sasikala's family members by the Income Tax department. The IT department conducted raids for 5 days and has also seized incriminating material. IT officials had said that while 16 bank lockers were frozen, they have also found documents which relate to investments in shell companies.
