Amarinder Singh Remembers Manmohan Singh as a True Statesman and Leader
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at 92 on Thursday night at AIIMS in Delhi, was hailed as a statesman by former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Amarinder expressed his condolences to Singh's family and loved ones, highlighting the former PM's vision, wisdom, humility, and dedication to India's growth.

Amarinder Singh, now a BJP leader, shared his sorrow on X, stating, "Deeply saddened by the passing of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh ji, a true statesman who led by example." He reminisced about seeking guidance from Manmohan Singh on economic issues during his tenure as Punjab's Chief Minister. Amarinder credited Singh's insights for shaping Punjab's economic policies.
Economic Reforms and Contributions
Amarinder praised Manmohan Singh for his unparalleled contributions to India's economic development. He noted that Singh played a crucial role in liberalising the Indian economy and introducing transformative policies. These efforts helped India emerge as a significant economic power. Amarinder also mentioned Singh's special affection for Punjab, recalling projects like the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Mohali.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister, described Manmohan Singh as a global economist and pioneer of India's economic reforms. Hooda stated that Singh's work propelled India forward on the path of progress. "The country will always remember Dr Manmohan Singh for his work, vision and contribution to nation's development," Hooda said.
Impact on Haryana's Development
Hooda highlighted Manmohan Singh's contributions to Haryana's development during his government. Projects like the Fatehabad nuclear power plant and various railway lines were initiated under his leadership. Hooda emphasised that these projects significantly contributed to Haryana's progress alongside national development.
Manmohan Singh served as India's Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and was instrumental in setting up the country's economic framework as Finance Minister before that. His legacy as an architect of India's economic reforms remains influential in both national and international financial sectors.
