TRS may seek two union cabinet berths to seal BJP alliance
New Delhi, May 30: The BJP's national president, Amit Shah has thrown the ball into the court of the Telangana Rastriya Samithi. He said that the BJP would be ready for an alliance when the TRS is ready.
The alliance with the TRS has been the talk in political circles since 2013.
The Telangana BJP had said three years back that it had no objection to an alliance with the TRS.
However at that time around the TRS which was emerging as a hero following the formation of the Telangana state wanted to test the waters alone. It paid off for them and in the assembly elections they emerged victorious.
Is TRS ready?
The TRS has been indicating for sometime that it is not entirely opposed to the idea of an alliance with the BJP.
The praising of the Union Budget by its leaders was one indication that the TRS was cozying up to the BJP. However there are certain issues that is keeping this alliance from taking shape.
The TRS will expect at least two cabinet berths in the centre apart from fund allocation if they were to go ahead with the BJP. The BJP however wants to think about this alliance on a long term basis.
The BJP wants an alliance with the TRS and fight the next elections in the state. The BJP realises that for it to do well in Telangana, it would need the support of the TRS which is the strongest party in the state.
For the BJP however this would be a gamble. It is aware that its alliance partner TDP would exit once the TRS alliance was through.
BJP sources say that there are several issues that need to be worked out. Amit Shah has openly indicated that the BJP is ready for an alliance. We are awaiting a response from the TRS.
If they come forward then the issues could be discussed, the source also pointed out.
