BJD Leader's Brother, Bhaba Prasad Das, Faces New Legal Troubles Amid Ongoing Investigations

The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has initiated an investigation into the alleged assault on Independent MLA Himanshu Sahoo. This follows the registration of three additional cases against Bhaba Prasad Das, brother of senior BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das. These cases were filed by Jajpur Town police in a local court on Monday.

Bhaba Prasad Das was arrested two days prior and is currently in jail for allegedly assaulting a vegetable vendor at Biraja Haat in Jajpur town. The new charges relate to his purported involvement in violent protests, including surrounding the Jajpur Town Police Station and blocking roads near Biraja Haat on November 20, coinciding with the attack on Dharmasala MLA, who is supported by the BJP.

Additional Legal Proceedings

A complaint regarding another vendor's assault has also been lodged against Bhaba Prasad Das in the local Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court. Authorities have requested the SDJM court to integrate these charges into the ongoing legal proceedings against him. Following this development, Das was presented in court to address these new allegations.

In a recent decision, the SDJM denied Bhaba Prasad Das's bail application. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch continues its investigation into the alleged attack on MLA Sahoo. A special team of six members, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police CID Saroj Kanta Mohanta, has been formed to thoroughly examine the incident.

Focus of Investigation

The investigation will focus on three primary issues: the alleged attack on Dharmasala MLA, the road blockade near Biraja Haat, and the gherao of Jajpur Town Police Station related to this incident. The attack reportedly occurred near a bridge over the Budha river under Jajpur Sadar police limits on November 20 evening by supporters of Pranab Prakash Das.

Despite these allegations, BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das has denied any involvement in the incident. The investigation aims to uncover all details surrounding these events and bring clarity to the situation.
