On August 30, he announced that the Prime Minister had approved Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for those injured due to the severe floods.

"Grateful for the support! My heartfelt thanks to Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi for announcing PMNRF ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the floods and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured," Dr. Saha stated on X (formerly Twitter). Tripura Floods

State Declared Natural Calamity-Affected

The Tripura government has declared the entire state as a natural calamity-affected area following unprecedented flooding. A memorandum from Birjesh Pandey, Secretary of Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department, highlighted that 31 people have died, two are injured, and one person is missing. Preliminary estimates suggest a loss of Rs 15,000 crore due to flood damage.

The state executive committee (SEC) of Tripura Disaster Management Authority (TDMA), chaired by the Chief Secretary, decided on August 24 to declare Tripura as a natural calamity-affected area. The notification was issued considering the extensive loss of human lives and damage to properties.

Relief Operations and Financial Aid

The Centre has released Rs 40 crore for relief operations in response to the disaster. This financial aid aims to support ongoing rescue efforts and assist those affected by the floods. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been actively involved in rescue operations, saving 125 stranded individuals so far.

As per recent updates, the death toll due to flooding has risen to 24. The NDRF's timely intervention has been crucial in mitigating further loss of life and providing immediate assistance to those impacted by this natural disaster.

The announcement of ex-gratia payments by Prime Minister Modi comes as a significant relief measure amidst these challenging times. The financial support aims to alleviate some of the burdens faced by families who have lost loved ones or suffered injuries due to the floods.

The devastating floods have caused widespread destruction across Tripura, affecting both public infrastructure and private properties. The state's declaration as a natural calamity-affected area underscores the severity of the situation and highlights the need for comprehensive relief efforts.

Efforts are ongoing to assess the full extent of damage and provide necessary assistance to rebuild affected communities. The combined efforts of state authorities and central government support aim to restore normalcy in Tripura as swiftly as possible.

Dr. Manik Saha's acknowledgment of Prime Minister Modi's compassion reflects a unified approach towards addressing this crisis. The collaborative efforts between state and central authorities are crucial in ensuring effective relief measures reach those in need promptly.

The focus remains on providing immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for flood-affected individuals and communities across Tripura. Continuous monitoring and assessment will guide further actions required to mitigate future risks and enhance disaster preparedness.
