Elections to the 60-member assembly of the northeastern state of Tripura will be held on 16 February. The counting votes will take place on March 2.

In the 2018 elections, the saffron party ushed to power securing 35 seats with 43.59 percent of the vote share. The CPI (M) secured 16 seats with 42.22 percent of the vote share. The IPFT won 8 seats on 7.38 votes cast. Congress was decimated to zero seats and just 1.79 percent of the vote share.
The BJP is contesting 55 assembly seats, and its ally IPFT has fielded candidates in six constituencies. The two parties will be having a be friendly fight in one seat. The CPI(M) is contesting 47 seats and the Congress 13 constituencies. The TMC has fielded nominees in 28 constituencies. Apart from that, there are 58 independent aspirants in the fray.

CM Manik Saha who has filed his nomination from the Town Borodowali assembly constituency will contest opposite Congress' Ashish Kumar Saha. Manik Saha had become the new chief minister replacing Biplab Kumar Deb with less than a year to go for crucial elections to the state assembly.
In Sabroom Constituency, CPI(M) State General Secretary Jitendra Choudhury has been fielded from Sabroom constituency.
In Agartala constituency, Congress Sudip Roy Barman filed his nomination papers from Agartala constituency in Tripura. He will be contesting opposite BJP's Papiya Dutta.

In Dhanpur constituency, the saffron camp has fielded Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik from Dhanpur. Bhoumik is the first Tripura resident and 2nd woman from North East to be a Union Minister.
In Banamalipur constituency, Tripura BJP state president Rajiv Bhattacharjee will contest from Biplab Dev's seat in Banamalipur this time.
Karbook constituency will see Ashim Tripura of BJP, Priyamani Debbarma CPI(M) and TIPRA's Sanjay Manik Tripura fight for a win.
