Over the last couple of days, Biplab has made several controversial statements triggering widespread criticism, even after PM Modi asked party leaders to refrain from making "irresponsible" statements, saying such comments hurt the party's image.

Earlier last week, Biplab Kumar Deb's comment that international beauty contests are a farce and questioning the crowning of Diana Hayden as "Miss World" in 1997 drew criticism from various quarters, including beauty pageant contestants, social workers and his political opponents.

On Saturday, Deb said that the youth runs after political parties for several years to get a government job and wastes the vital time of their life, had the same youth instead of running after parties set up a paan shop he would have by now had a bank balance of Rs 5 lakhs," said Deb.
