WB: Trains come face-to-face, but collision averted

Kolkata, Dec 12: Two passenger trains on Thursday came face-to-face at Sealdah railway station here but a major accident was averted as the trains were in very slow motion and stopped, Eastern railway sources said.

The driver of Sealdah-Lalgola passenger overshot the starter signal at the cross-over point outside the platform when Bongaon local was coming from the opposite direction, Eastern railway CPRO R N Mahapatra said.

Collision was averted as drivers of both trains were in a very slow motion.

The driver, assistant driver and guard of Lalgola passenger were suspended and an inquiry was ordered into the incident, he added.
