Mother and Daughter Commit Suicide Amid Financial Strain in Bhadohi, UP

A woman and her 22-year-old daughter reportedly took their own lives by ingesting insecticide on Sunday, according to police. The woman's 18-year-old son, who also consumed the insecticide, is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

Tragic Suicide in Bhadohi, UP

Suman Tiwari, aged 42, and her daughter Komal, residents of Arai village, ingested sulphas insecticide tablets at their home in the morning, stated Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tejveer Singh. Their family members rushed them to a hospital in Prayagraj district, but both mother and daughter died there.

Family's Financial Struggles

The police revealed that Suman's husband, Sunil Tiwari, is mentally challenged. The family had no steady income and had borrowed Rs 2.50 lakh from various individuals. People frequently visited their home to recover the loan, which was initially being repaid by Sunil's elder son Yuvraj. However, Yuvraj eventually failed to continue the repayments, leading to increased pressure on the family.

There was also an ongoing property dispute within the family. This dispute led to an argument between Suman, her mother-in-law Maharaji Devi, and her sister-in-law Saroj Devi. Around 10 am on Sunday, Suman ingested the insecticide and gave it to her daughter and son Golu, who has been hospitalised.

Police Investigation

The bodies have been returned to their village as the police continue their investigation into the incident. ASP Tejveer Singh confirmed that they are looking into all aspects of the case.

Later in the evening, based on a complaint filed by Suman's brother Ashok Kumar, a case was registered against her mother-in-law Maharaji Devi and sister-in-law Saroj Devi under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to police reports.
