Tragic Accident: 8 Killed, 19 Hurt On Agra-Lucknow Expressway As Double-Decker Sleeper Bus Crashes Into Tanker

A tragic accident occurred on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway involving a double-decker sleeper bus and a water tanker. The bus, travelling from Lucknow to Delhi, collided with the tanker near Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. The impact caused the bus to overturn into a ditch. This unfortunate incident resulted in eight fatalities and left over 19 people injured.

Immediate Response and Rescue Efforts

Jal Shakti Minister Swatantradev Singh was nearby when the accident happened. He promptly stopped his convoy to assist in rescuing the injured passengers. Singh also alerted senior district officials and UPDA about the situation. "Senior police and administrative officials have reached the spot and they have been instructed to provide the best of medical treatment to the injured," Singh told PTI.

The accident took place near Mishrabad village, close to the Auraiya border within Sakrava police station's jurisdiction. Villagers gathered at the scene as emergency services arrived. Kannauj Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand confirmed that eight people died in this incident, with more than 19 others sustaining injuries.

Official Statements and Safety Concerns

Singh expressed his condolences, stating, "It's an unfortunate incident. We need to be more careful on roads and adhere to traffic rules, safety measures." The collision reportedly occurred because the bus driver was drowsy while driving, leading to this devastating crash.

Kannauj District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukla, SP Amit Kumar Anand, and Tirwa MLA Kailash Rajput were present at the site. They coordinated efforts to transport the injured individuals to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

Aftermath and Passenger Assistance

Authorities ensured that passengers who were unharmed continued their journey in another bus arranged by police. This swift action aimed to minimise further disruption for those travelling for employment purposes from Lucknow.
